Abstract

The emergence of personal communication systems (PCS) enabling service mobility puts new demands on network components including databases. Traffic projections of real-time queries indicate substantial increases over current loads. Numerous challenges face the teletraffic community as it endeavors to ensure improved quality of service for PCS. These include the modeling and improvement of database reliability and availability, development of data management algorithms and protocols, design of database overload controls, guidelines for the optimal location of databases and modeling and improvement of real-time performance. In this paper we describe these challenges in more detail.
