Abstract

Teleneurology, or the use of telemedicine to provide neurologic services, is being increasingly utilized in hospital systems, academic centers, and private practice. In the era of health-care reform, telemedicine is being leveraged as a way to reduce costs and improve the quality of care for patients. Competency in implementation, utilization, and incorporation into various modern health-care settings is becoming increasingly valuable. In order to adequately prepare future neurologists for practice in this evolving health-care landscape, contemporary graduate medical education in neurology training should include exposure to and formal training in telemedicine. This chapter discusses the evolving role of neurologists within this new health-care landscape as well as several proposed elements for integration into a formal telemedicine curriculum.
