Abstract
A metropolitan city like Lagos, suffers the harshsituation of terrible traffic caused by overpopulation and bad roads. To get towork punctually and return back home on time is like a mirage to severalworkers. This definitely will affect performance and productivity of workers.Telecommuting has been found to be the solution to similar challenges in someother nations of the world. How far this Quality-of-Worklife (QWL) programmehas been implemented in Nigeria in general and Lagos State in particular, isthe focus of this study. A survey wascarried out on a randomly sampled 1000(715returned) women working in fourgovernment owned tertiary institutions in Lagos State of Nigeria, looking at anumber of factors that could affect the QWL of workers. Interview was alsoadministered on the executive officers of the institutions. Interval scale wasused in scoring the Likert response options given for items on thequestionnaire. It was found that women workers on a general note had a highlevel of organizational pressure factor influence on quality of work life. Therecommended solution was for the management of institutions to come up withpolicies that promotes telecommuting as a means of reducing organizationalpressure, increase productivity and increase the quality of work life.
