Abstract

In this study, the perspective of single parent individuals on single parenthood and within this process the effect of environmental mechanisms on the individual were investigated. The study group of the research consisted of eight people in total, 6 of whom were the students studying at different grades in Turkey, and two of whom were persons who newly graduated. In the research a phenomenological approach was used. The research was carried out with a semi-structured interview technique and the data obtained were analyzed by induction. In accordance with the research metrology and subject, four main themes were determined such as problems caused by the absence of parents, strategies to cope with these problems, adaptation to the social environment and the effect of single parenting on the upbringing. Results obtained from the research show that, single parent individuals have experienced emotional changes in this process, and these emotional changes affect both personality traits of the individual and also their adaptation process to the society at different levels.
