Abstract

A Teflon version of the clog-free Babington slurry nebulizer is presented. The updated design is free of contamination, is more durable, corrosion-resistant, and adjustable, and is easier to construct and repair than the previous design used for the direct slurry atomization method of analyzing solid tissues. Wettability of the Babington nebulizer surface does not appear to be important. The new nonwettable Teflon Babington slurry nebulizer yields the same aerosol median droplet diameter, droplet size distribution, total aerosol mass output rate, and final flame atomic absorbance as the previous wettable metal nebulizer of otherwise identical design and construction.
