Abstract

Nadezhda Alexandrovna Lohvitskaya, who was the first and the most famous woman humorist writer of the 20th century in Russian literature, continued her literary success in France, as well in Russia, until the October Revolution in 1917. In the period of Tsarist Russia, Teffi`s popularity, attributed to her poems and humoristic stories, was so great that candies and perfumes were named after her. As a result of the events in October producing inability to adapt to the drastic changes occurring after that, Teffi decided to move abroad. She lived in Istanbul for a few months and then went to France. She lived in France for 32 years, never returning back to Russia. All the motifs and humoristic elements in Teffi`s early works were mixed with melancholy and nostalgia due to emigration. Nevertheless, humor stayed as an integral part of her works. In this study it has been analyzed how the writer’s humor perception changed as a result of the hard conditions and tragedy involved in emigration.
