Abstract

The position of teeth plays a vital role in a person's capability to ingest, articulate, and face's appearance. If there is an error in the position or alignment of the upper and lower jaw teeth while chewing or biting, there may be issues with the facial muscles and problems like breakage of teeth or swelling of gums. Detecting the errors in spacing between the adjacent teeth and identifying their position is a hectic task for orthodontists. Intraoral Scanners or IOS are scanners that create precise three-dimensional pictures of teeth and their supporting structures, enabling dentists to see irregularities with their teeth This detection and analysis of teeth is crucial for planning treatment using braces. This paper aims to detect the position of teeth, along with the gap between each tooth, and spot the error by taking intraoral scanner images as input. If the gap between teeth is over 1.5-2mm of spacing, an error in the structure of teeth will the shown using the faster R-CNN method, K-Means Clustering Algorithm, and Euclidean Distance formula. It will also spot the error in the position of the teeth. The proposed system will benefit orthodontists mainly by speeding up the pre-treatment analysis process and eliminating the physical work of using clay molds which are used for analysing the structure of teeth for an efficient treatment plan.
