Abstract

A very interesting summary on the correlative relation of coal metamorphism to tectonic history of the sedimentary basins involved. The author believes that coal metamorphism at depth is wholly determined by the tectonic history of the basin and therefore can be used in working out this history in full detail. Among the interesting data summaries on coal is one dealing with the relative cooling in synclinal troughs and warming on anticlinal crests. A good general summary of the factors involved in tectonic control of volatiles in coal is presented. — B.N. Cooper.
