Abstract
THE activity of Tecnomare, a company for development of marine technologies, consists of carrying out projects of applied research and industrial development in off-shore fields. One particular activity concerns the design, construction and subsequent trials of remote operated vehicles, amongst them vehicles for burying electrical cables and submarine pipelines. The choice made by Tecnomare right from the beginning was to move the vehicle on the seabed, without stressing the pipes or the cable to be buried. The problem of soil-vehicle interaction, in a difficult environment where the soil bearing capacity is very low, has, therefore, been tackled.
