AbstractTechnology intelligence is rapidly becoming a widely recognized and important subset of the broader process of competitive intelligence. This article describes what the author views as the differentiating characteristics of business intelligence, competitive intelligence, and technology intelligence, and how external technology scouting—seeking new ideas in science and technology for further development—is filling a major and integrated role. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
