Abstract

This paper aims to explore the role of incubators in fostering the establishment and growth of new technology-based firms through empirical methods, and the samples are composed of 228 new technology-based firms. The empirical results indicate that incubator's selection and network service function works well, and should make efforts in improving new technology-based firm's performance and promoting innovations output. On-incubator firms show better initial resource endowments and higher innovations input than their off-incubator counterparts; on-incubator firms also perform better in establishment of cooperation between industries, universities and research institutes and have diversified financing channels. However, innovations output and new technology-based firm's performance have only marginally differences between on and off-incubator firms.
