Abstract

The use of technology in learning is an extension to the traditional classroom teaching with ways to augment traditional textbook materials with online resources, lectures through the use of rich multimedia and interactive content. The rich human resource comprising of youth in South Asia can prove to be an enabling factor for quality enrichment and advancement. The advent of massive open online course in the arena of online education in the recent years has catapulted several novel ventures, both commercial and non-commercial, offering access to quality online courses at the higher education level. The information and communication technology in education policy implemented by the countries together with ever increasing mobile and Internet penetration offers a range of opportunities for enabling technology in learning. The eLearning initiatives of the countries have seen wide application in the recent years by the teaching community and students alike which needs to be further enhanced in the current decade to provide the benefit of technology to the masses. The present review accesses the need of eLearning initiatives along with policy discussion and recommendations.
