Abstract

The purpose of the study is to develop a technology for treatment of processes for spent salt and spent glass mold. These waste were incorporated into a glass-bonded sodalite waste form. Simulated spent salt was treated in a simple technique, “forced mixing ball mill Attritor”. It is well known that attritor works as material processing equipment such as milling ,mixing homogeneously and additionally mechanochemical reaction. The occlusion property on salt/zeolite (occlusion / ion-exchange) was demonstrated even at the room temperature operation. Attritor treatment worked to remove all rare earth chlorides from spent salt and enriched them in the stable solid form. A part of alkali and alkaline earth elements, except for sodium, were extensively enriched in the mixture of zeolite and glass.Product mixture of zeolite with borosilicate glass was successfully consolidated to glass-bonded sodalite using a hot isostatic pressing technique. The new waste treatment process was proposed.
