Abstract

The impressive growth of Walmart is an example of an organization exploiting its capabilities and competencies to build and maintain a dominant footing within its industry. This report will briefly analyze the retail industry as a whole to determine the strategic options available to players within the industry, as well as analysis the core competencies of Walmart. The industry analysis examined the supply chain, new entrants and competition within the retail industry. The core competency review analyzed key business functions to determine if Walmart demonstrated a unique positioning of its internal resources.
