Abstract

Living in the knowledge age, we acknowledge that new ideas and innovative products are the new sources of economic growth. Technologies play a critical role in knowledge-based economy in several ways For example, internet is one of the main conduits for learning new skills and information that are necessary in a knowledge-based economy. Technologies, at the same time, also drive changes in education. Interestingly, researchers in the learning sciences are also discussing changes in perspectives of learning and one of these changes is viewing learning through knowledge creation. This talk is situated at the nexus of these interacting changes: knowledge creation, learning, and technology. In particular, it focuses on how technologies can support learning through knowledge creation. This talk will answer a few pertinent questions: What does learning through knowledge creation look like? How does learning occur through knowledge creation? How do current technologies support this learning process? How can we harness emerging technologies to support learning through knowledge creation?
