Abstract
Robot Taekwon V gave birth to a desirable future vision of the South Korean nation as a saviour of the world based on technologized tae kwon do millennialism. This concept promises a utopian future that takes advantage of the nation's economic transformation with President Park Chung-hee's three Five-Year Plans and martial transformation with General Choi Hong-hi's invention of tae kwon do. Director Kim Cheong-gi crystallized this national transformation and created a fictional hero to exorcise the major historical traumas that befell the Korean peninsula, thereby creating a reinvigorated new image of South Korea as it asserted its new-found national identity.
