Abstract

In the previous chapters I have looked at various sets of discourses and practices within which women teachers at the turn of the nineteenth century cultivated technologies of the self. Following Probyn’s suggestion of ‘sexing the self’ (1993), it is now time to review how gender has bended the male tradition of the technologies of the self.
