Technological Innovation in the City of Manaus – Brazil

Abstract

Currently organizations that are not able to learn and improve continuously reduce their chances of success, regardless of size, the improvement is something imperative for the twenty-first century with pressures in all directions. Through this, this work aims at presenting a case study on technological innovation activities in a enterprise from a questionnaire similar to the instrument used by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in Technological Innovation Research (PINTEC). The research is characterized as qualitative and descriptive approach used as has been the case study and the definition of the universe has a small business in the food sector located in the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM). As research techniques were used (1) indirect documentation through desk research, literature and intensive direct observation (observation and structured interview), and (2) extensive direct observation (forms). The enterprise selected for this study is a small-scale industry installed in the Industrial Pole of Manaus that operates in the food sector. The results of the case study presents the main innovations and their impact on the enterprise; cooperation processes, research and development, financing, barriers to innovation and future prospects. Regarding product innovation, the enterprise has developed significant technological improvements in products considered for this the enterprise has established cooperation with other local research institutes to incorporate new materials, or to change the composition of inputs in order to improve the final product. The conclusions show the importance of innovation focused on sustainability and culture appreciation Amazon. The perspectives presented by the enterprise indicates that its trajectory is moving upward, and that the process of generation of technological innovation activity will remain central to its growth, given the high costs involved in generating innovation, notes the importance of stimulus programs and funding for basic scientific research and innovative activity in the micro and small enterprises to Brazilian industry growth.
