Abstract

The role of technological hype in thinking about questions of international security is an important yet under-examined subject. This paper examines technological hype in general, its particular significance for the consideration of military capabilities and the balance of power during the past century, and the possibility that such hype is resurgent today. This paper also examines the principal pitfalls against which such analysis should attempt to guard to avoid the mistakes of the past.
