Abstract

Chang'e-4 is the first man-made probe that accomplished landing and roving on the far side of the moon, setting a new mile-stone in lunar exploration. This paper gives a brief introduction to the state of international lunar exploration and reviews the implementation process of the Chang'e-4 project. After sorting the important technological breakthroughs in the aspects such as Earth-Moon relay communications, high-precision landing on the far side of the moon and radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTG), this paper summarizes a number of original scientific research achievements in the topography of the far side of the moon, mineral composition and environmental detection. It could provide references for further lunar exploration, planetary exploration and scientific research.
