Abstract

Test equipment is constructed and technology is developed for electric contact sintering of annular specimens based on iron. The structure and properties of specimens after sintering is studied by metallographic and x-ray methods. It is established that the structure of these specimens is ferrite-bainite-martensite with predominance of the martensitic phase. After electric sintering there are considerable microstresses in the material that increase with an increase in carbon content. A considerable number of randomly arranged dislocations are revealed in sintered annular specimens that are more numerous by two orders of magnitude or more than the number of boundary dislocations. This should be appear in the mechanical properties of sintered specimens. Comparison of the structure and properties of annular and rectilinear specimens of the same composition sintered by electric contact method shows a small difference in these properties. Thus the electric sintering technology developed by us for annular specimens may with appropriate development be introduced into production.
