Abstract

It is shown that the new bubble-based technologies being proposed in ferrous metallurgy are modifications of the existing Vanyukov and Romelt processes. The technological indices of the Romelt process in the one-zone (classic) variant are compared to the corresponding indices in the two-zone variant, and calculations are performed to determine the thermal and material balances of the classic Romelt furnace and both zones of the two-bath furnace. It is established that the unit amounts of charge materials and energy carriers consumed in the recycling of converter sludge is the same in each variant. The article describes ways in which the two-zone Romelt technology can be used efficiently.
