Abstract

Bubbling column fermentors (without mechanical stirring) are being increasingly used at present for culturing microorganisms. In their mass exchange characteristics, these are no inferior to apparatus with stirrers and ~heir specific power consumption is very low [i]. Laboratory and industrial studies showed that the use of bubbling fermentors with immobile contact devices holds promise even for thebiosynthesis oflysine [2-6]. Such apparatus could therefore serve as a basis for developing large fermentors of capacity 160-300 m3o
