Abstract
The control of noise exposure in existing power plants is a horrendous task. Among the difficulties encountered in a noise control program are: (1) identification of sources of high sound levels; (2) identification of personnel exposure; and (3) identification of feasible means to control sound levels. In addition, there is the ever-present problem of implementing a personal hearing protection program for those areas which cannot feasibly be quieted and, during the feasibility study and implementation period, for those areas which can be feasibly quieted. This paper describes procedures and equipment which can be used to control noise exposure in existing power plants.
