Abstract
Objective To develop a more perfect procedure of piggyback liver transplantation. Methods The recipient' s vena cava was left, all hepatic veins ligated and a lateral hole opened on the inferior vena cava. An end-side anastomosis of donor s vena cava to the lateral hole on the recipient s inferior vena cava was conducted and the distal end was sutured. A patient with primary biliary liver cirrhosis underwent the modified operation. During operation, hemodynamic parameters for the recipient were measured at various time-phases. Results The operation was successful. During operation, the hemodynamic parameters were normal, and after operation most liver function indicators returned to normal. Conclusion End to side anastomosis of vena cava had some advantages. This method is worthy of being applied in clinical liver transplantation for benign late-stage hepatic diseases.
