Abstract

Certain methodical aspects of using one of the active methods of acoustic testing of materials and products, namely, measurements of the frequency dependence of the attenuation coefficient are considered when the dependence of recorded results on the physical differences between the measurement channels is eliminated. The attenuation coefficients of transverse and longitudinal ultrasonic waves are estimated under the laboratory conditions and the problems of predicting the remaining lifetime on the basis of attenuation of surface acoustic waves in plates subjected to alternating bending in the low-cycle fatigue domain are discussed.
