Abstract

A technique for measuring the surface roughness of metallic electrodes in aqueous solution has been established. The technique was developed based on incorporating methods of diffraction for measuring the hidez 1 refraction iI solutions and with those of holographic interferometry for measuring the microscopic alterations on the electrode surface. In particular, the technique utilizes the idea of the doubleexposure holographic formation of a contour map over a diffusely reflecting surface of arbitrary shape by using an immersion method1. As a result, the surface roughness of a number of metallic electrodes has been determined in situe as a function of time. In addition, a correlation between data of surface roughness and with those of electrochemistry was developed. In general, the arrelation indicates that the surface roughness of the electrode changes in responding to the change of the surface electrochemistry of the electrodes. The obtained results will be presented at the meeting.
