Abstract

Problem Definition Methodology Expected Results Conclusions and Recommendations  Measure near-field enhancement of radiative heat transfer between parallel plates with nanometric spacing as a function of plate temperature and spacing.  Amount of near-field enhancement is defined as: This study demonstrates that a measurement of near field enhancement on the order of 104. Using the method proposed, a clear correlation can be made between temperature and heat flux as well as heat flux at a given temperatures for multiple distances as predicted in the expected results. A recommendation for following work includes measuring the increase in throughput of thermoelectric devices and also measuring the spectral qualities of the transmitted radiation in the near field.
