Abstract

1. The veneer crown is one of our most useful restorations and abutment attachments. It fulfills the requirements of strength, esthetics and function to a high degree. It can be used to save and restore badly broken down teeth where esthetics and durability are important, as well as for abutments for fixed and removable bridges. There is little question as to the comparable strength and durability of this restoration. 2. It is important, whether a single crown restoration or a multiple tooth bridge is to be constructed, to give full consideration to the details of function, jaw relations, temporomandibular dysfunction, malocclusion, plane of occlusion, tooth characteristics, and similar factors. 3. Mounting of upper and lower casts on an instrument for detailed study is essential for success. 4. Conditioning the mouth by the use of temporary appliances is a safety precaution against haphazard and questionable treatment. 5. Individual patient jaw movements can be built into each crown by use of the functional chew-in method. 6. The method of crown construction outlined in this paper enables the operator to produce crowns which meet exacting specifications of proper function, fit and esthetics. 7. The amalgam die reproductions of the original veneer gold casting make it a simple procedure to fabricate exacting facings as replacements, should there be any accidental fractures after the restorations have been permanently cemented in the mouth. 8. The technical procedures herein described have been found successful in routine office practice and can be followed in all details without undue hardship to the patient or operator.
