Abstract
ABSTRACT The Syncrude Canada Limited Oilsand Mine has operated for the past ten years, achieving a successful startup and a consistent upward trend in ore production each year. The high production level, along with a significant reduction in unit cost, have been accomplished through the efforts of the operating and technical organizations in overcoming the complexities of the Mine and Tailings Operations. The size and complexity of the Operations have necessitated the creation of a large Mining technical organization covering a wide range Of disciplines and activities. The factors which make the Syncrude Mine and Tailings Operation unique and challenging are outlined as an introduction to the organization and functions of the Mining technical groups. The resources and activities of each technical area are described, giving an insight into the size and diversity of the Mining technical organization.
