Abstract
The use of fourth-generation languages (4GLs) makes possible the development of standardized yet flexible applications. However, a 4GL must have a number of important facilities in each of the possible components of an application: file specification, online file maintenance, data entry, file processing, reporting, queries, data transfer to/from other computer and application packaging.
