Abstract
The life cycle of technical PSS comprises of design, production, use, and end-of-life. Decisions in PSS design have significant influence on the carbon footprint (CF). Thus, reduction measures need to be integrated in the PSS design. This paper presents a model-based design methodology to reduce the CF of technical PSS. The methodology contains six steps: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), LCA analysis, reduction measures identification, conflict prevention, LCA reevaluation, and detailed elaboration. To validate the feasibility, a use case from machine tool industry is carried out. The results show that the methodology can identify measures that reduce the CF significantly.
