Abstract

Estimation of the enzyme 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase in vaginal fluid has previously been suggested as a screening test for gynecologic cancer. In material comprising 92 invasive cervical carcinomas, 39 intraepithelial carcinomas, and 166 benign lesions, whether the reliability of the test might be increased by some slight modifications of the enzyme assay was studied. It is concluded that freeze-drying of the samples should be omitted, and that the soluble protein content is the most convenient parameter for determination of the 6-PGD activity.
