Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an excellent tool for understanding the complex anatomy of the pelvic floor and for assessing pelvic floor disorders. Using appropriate imaging protocols, the anatomy of the pelvic floor can be visualized in great detail, without exposing the patient to harmful ionizing radiation. Dynamic MRI allows detection and characterization of functional pelvic floor abnormalities. In this chapter, we review the technical aspects of static and dynamic pelvic floor MRI. We focus on recent technical developments in pelvic floor MRI, which enable a global and integrated approach to the pelvic floor.
