Abstract

Due to the great damage caused by the Muroto-typhoon in 1924, technical standards for large-scale wooden construction needed to be revised. We have found that school auditorium buildings still exist in Tokai district built in early Showa-period before the WWII and they are good materials to analyze the technical transition at the time. This paper describes about the historically noteworthy aspects of the buildings based on the field survey, construction drawings and interviews as well as structural analysis about the wooden truss to enable a large space. We hope this study contributes to the evaluation and conservation of cultural properties.
