Abstract
For photodynamic therapy of superficial bladder cancer with 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) a delivery system for 5 W white light of a Xe arc lamp was developed. For light dosimetric analysis, optical properties of bladder tissue have been measured in vivo for different wavelengths. The clinical safety and efficacy have been proven on 10 patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer treated with 100 J/cm2. Nearly complete bleaching of 5-ALA induced Protoporphyrin IX (PPIX) has been observed.
