Abstract
The IEEE Control Systems Society Technical Committee (TC) on Discrete-Event Systems (DESTC) was established on June 1, 1999 and subsumes the activities of the Working Group on DESs. The TC's focus is to promote communication between DES researchers, scholars, students, and practitioners. The TC website is http://discrete-event-systems.ieeecss.org/. DESTC currently has approximately 240 members, and TC meetings are usually held during the American Control Conference (ACC) and/or the Conference on Decision and Control (CDC); in 2016, meetings were held during both conferences. A mailing list of all committee members was created, and a monthly e-newsletter is sent with updates on recent research progress and opportunities in the field. This column summarizes the 2016 activities of the DESTC.
