Abstract

Technical Activities is the foundation for many of the Communications Society's products and services, while also providing "community" and "networking" opportunities for its participants. ComSoc's Technical Activities community establishes an environment for technical content creation, whereas Publications and Conferences deal with the presentation and conversion of technical content into technical products and services. Within ComSoc, the term "technical activities" encompasses a wide range of topics: technical committees, emerging technologies, awards, education, standards, distinguished lecturers, evaluation of IEEE Fellow nominations, and communications history. These areas continue to evolve in spite of and in the face of cuts in important parts of the ComSoc budget (due to the economic downturn). As mentioned in the January 2010 message, we will strive to maintain and improve upon the technical quality of ComSoc products and services, providing value to our members, benefiting the broader communications and networking community, and ultimately doing our part in achieving ComSoc's goal of "Serving Humanity" - for example, helping serve fundamental human needs for content and communications.
