Real-time PCR is a molecular biological technique that allows the continuous monitoring of the amplification of a target DNA molecule throughout the PCR reaction. This essay gives an overview of the real-time PCR methodology, the application of this technology to the quantification levels of nucleic acids in biological samples, and the impact of this approach on genomics and medicine.
