Abstract

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization, injuries have become the major cause of death and disability in developing countries. Given the paucity of regional specialist-staffed hospitals and organized trauma systems, most injured patients in India receive initial treatment at general practitioner-staffed hospitals. We hypothesize that general practitioners (GPs) could improve their knowledge of trauma care after attending intensive training sessions. Methods: A 2-day (6hrs/day) intensive trauma course was conducted at a specialist-staffed hospital (170 bed) in Bangalore, India.
