Abstract

ABSTRACT This article describes a course in problem solving which the author taught during a January “short term”. Undergraduates not majoring in mathematics or science often find it difficult to understand and engage in true mathematical thought. The problem solving course described here was unusually successful in bringing average students to mathematical thinking.
