Abstract

Inappropriate device selection and incorrect inhaler technique are the most common reasons for treatment failure alongside lack of concordance (Pearce, 2002). Therefore inhaler device selection should be a key component of any consultation. A wide range of devices is available, and new devices are regularly added to the range. Inhalers may be classified as either pressurized metered dose inhalers (pMDIs) or dry powder inhalers. This article discusses the technique for pMDIs.
