Abstract

BYOD (bring your own device) student response systems use personal electronic devices to create a dynamic, engaging classroom environment. Useful features of these systems include the ability to ask polling questions, annotate PowerPoint slides, and create discussion forums. In this article, we will discuss the pedagogical advantages of using a student response system to develop an active learning environment. Additionally, we will discuss the advantages and challenges of implicating a BYOD response system instead of traditional clickers. Finally, R. Shane Hutton will provide insight into his experience of using a BYOD student response system to teach undergraduate statistics.
