Abstract

Introduction: Since 2009, the number of Americans following gluten-free diets (GFDs) has tripled. Gluten-free diets have become especially popular as a “treatment” for neurodevelopmental disorders, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Despite this increasing prevalence, no medical evidence has yet been found supporting the use of these diets for neurodevelopmental disorders and the AAP has not recommended GFDs for such disorders.
