Abstract
PurposeThis paper includes a proposed model for working with diverse students both in the classroom and as faculty mentors. This paper aims to provide guidelines on creating a collaborative learning community, helping students engage in cultural self-awareness and mentoring minority students.Design/methodology/approachAs a conceptual piece, this manuscript is a working model which has been implemented in instructor pedagogy for the past five years.FindingsSupport for this model primarily comes from student evaluations and feedback.Originality/valueThis manuscript will provide valuable teaching tools and insight into multicultural pedagogy.
