Abstract

This study offers emerging conceptual and pedagogical issues in teaching globalization and multiculturalism in sociology courses of university in the Midwest context. While this study delineates the overall issues of teaching globalization and multiculturalism in sociology, discussion will be focused on the multi-stage class activities for globalization (MUSCAG) and the importance of improving awareness of cultural diversity and multiculturalism as a class organization and topic in introduction to sociology course. The MUSCAG demonstrated an effectiveness in enhancing students’ awareness of globalization and multiculturalism and exhibiting practical and various ways of thinking. It is also found that the effectiveness of MUSCAG hinges on implementing the technique in such a way as to encourage students to utilize geographical and sociological imagination.
