Abstract
The paper reveals the possibilities of distance English for Specific Purposes instruction via Moodle learning management system. However, there is still a gap in implementation of Moodle into the digital educational process, because in Russia, large-scale online English teaching was introduced as the immediate reaction to pandemic threats and was not adjusted in accordance with best practices. Online teaching is viewed as a synchronous mode, that can be supplemented by asynchronous means. Blended learning approach and its recent variant flipped learning are described as the most efficient options of teaching English for Specific Purposes. Multimodal resources are presented as the means of context-based aspectual teaching of a target language, providing an individual trajectory of attainment. Various means of developing reflexive understanding are designated as a mechanism for increasing the effectiveness of the formation of English for Specific Purposes competence. The role of purposeful personal development, provided by the social environment, as well as technologies of education, is emphasized.
