Abstract
The global spread of English and resulting diversity in forms, users, and uses of English challenges traditional assumptions and practices in the field of English language teaching. Teaching English as an International Language (TEIL) is an emerging paradigm in ELT that acknowledges the linguistic, functional, and cultural diversity associated with the English language today (Matsuda and Matsuda in World Englishes: Re-thinking paradigms. Routledge, 2018).
