Abstract

[NOTE: The research reported in this paper was performed under a project at Arizona State University supported by a grant from the Educational Media Branch of the United States Office of Education, under Title VII of the National Defense Education Act. This report-together with such previous papers as the one by George Geis, published in this department in the January, 1962 issue-is mainly of interest in pointing up some of the problems encountered in attempts to evaluate programs. Some recommendations on program-evaluation criteria by the AERA-APA-DAVI Joint Committee on programed instruction will appear in this Department in the following issue. For brief comments by Donald G. Perrin on recent publications about teaching machines and programing, see Notes and Comments in the Book Review Department, p. 241 of this issue.--A.A.L.]
