Abstract

This paper examines the relevance of teachers in the implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) mathematics curricula. It discusses the meaning, objectives and structure of the UBE programme. The mathematics curricula in the Universal Basic Education programme are highlighted. The paper identifies and discusses problems of effective implementation of the Nigerian Universal Basic Education mathematics curricula and suggests that mathematics teacher should undergo regular retraining programmes and employ the use of instructional aids in teaching .
